The 2024 National Chess Championship of Monaco took place from 26 February to 3 March in Monte Carlo, determining Monaco’s Champions and the national teams for the upcoming 45th Chess Olympiad.
The event was played in 7 rounds, swiss system, with record-breaking 28 participants. The field included 9 female players and the best ranked woman was crowned Monegasque Women’s Champion.
Andre Meylan (2133) emerged as the sole Winner of the event with the score of 6 points, becoming Monaco’s Chess Champion for 2024. Andre Meylan was half a point ahead of IM Damir Levacic (2110) who won silver with 5.5 points, while two players tied for the third place scoring 5 points each. GM Amir Bagheri (2378) clinched bronze thanks to better tiebreaks, while WIM Marija Zvereva (2045) finished the event in the 4th position.
At the same time, WIM Marija Zvereva was the best ranked female player in the tournament, and clinched the Women’s Champion title. WGM Tatiana Dornbusch (2218) was second with 4.5 points, and Svetlana Berezovska (1739) came third with 4 points. Final rankings can be found below
The event served as a part of the Olympiad qualifications and helped to determine who would represent Monaco at the Budapest Chess Olympiad.
