Magnus Carlsen emerged as the winner of the Chessable Masters 2024 – the first of the Champions Chess Tourโs four events!
Carlsen defeated Alireza Firouzja in the Grand Final after thrilling two matches to earn 100 tour points, secure himself a spot in Division I for the next Champions Tour event, and pocket a prize money of $30,000! The Final started well for Firouzja who won the first match and forced the bracket reset. However, Magnus opened the reset match with a victory and squeezed water from a stone in the second game, winning the reset match with a convincing 2-0 score!
“It was not a sparkling event for me by any means, but it feels awesome to win!“, said Magnus in the post-match interview which can be replayed here.
