Magnus Carlsen tops the Norway Chess 2023 lineup

One of the world’s most prestigious chess tournaments, Norway Chess 2023, promises to be a highly competitive and exciting event this year. The event will be played from May 29 โ€“ June 9 in a round-robin format with Armageddon playoffs for each drawn game.

Returning to the tournament this year are World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, the youngest ever 2800+ rated player Alireza Firouzja, Dutch no. 1 and World’s no. 5 Anish Giri, three-time US Champion and World’s no. 8 Wesley So, five-time US Chess Champion and the reigning World Fischer Random Chess Champion Hikaru Nakamura, two-time US Champion and World’s no. 7 Fabiano Caruana, Azerbaijani no. 1 Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Norwegian no. 2 Aryan Tari. Additionally, two young talents will make their debute in the tournament: 18-year-old Grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov from Uzbekistan, and 16-year-old Grandmaster Dommaraju Gukesh from India. >>>Norway Chess 2023 – live games

The tournament starts on Monday May 29th with a blitz tournament, with round 1-9 from May 29 โ€“ June 9. There will be two free days, June 2nd, which is the day of Norway Chess Games, and June 7th.

In terms of time control, each player will have 120 minutes on the clock with an increment of 10 seconds after move 40. The time control for the Armageddon game white has 10 minutes and black has 7 minutes with an increment for both players of 1 second per move, starting from move 41.

The total prize fund of the Tournament is 2 500 000 NOK (~238,000 USD) with 750,000 NOK (~71,500 USD) reserved for the Winner of the event.
