Magnus Carlsen advanced to the Grand Finale of the Chessable Masters 2024, after defeating 17-year-old prodigy GM Denis Lazavik who showed outstanding performance in the tournament. Magnus won the final game of the match after lots of turnovers as Lazavik cracked under huge time trouble and went into a lost pawn endgame.
In the post-match interview with Tania Sachdev, Carlsen said that he believes Lazavik will become a top chess player in the future: “He’s just fundamentally very sound. Good understanding. He’s not easy to break down. I think with some experience he’s gonna become a top player.“. After the match analysis, Magnus answered fans’ questions.
“What is Magnus Carlsen looking forward in 2024” was the question, and Magnus Carlsen revealed that he looks very much forward to the Freestyle Chess GOAT Challenge: “I am looking forward to a lot of things, but in the near future I am looking forward to the [Chessable Masters] Final and I am very much looking forward to playing Freestyle Chess Classical!“.
