The Lewis Chess Legends Open 2024 will take place from 6-14th August at the legendary Archbishop’s Palace in Trondheim, Norway.
The event aims to spread knowledge about the Lewis Chess-pieces’ and its connection to the Nidaros Cathedral and the Archbishop’s Palace. The event is organized by the Hell Chess Club.
The Festival will consist of three events:
- Lewis Chess Legends Open
- Lewis Chess Legends U2200
- Nordic Senior Chess Championship
The Nordic Championship will be integrated into the main tournament, with separate prizes awarded to Nordic champions in both the men’s and women’s categories. The Nordic Senior Championship (50+ and 65+) will be held as a separate event, requiring a minimum of 20 participants.
The event is following the prize distribution proposed by the Norway Chess tournament – equal prizes for men and women. Therefore, of the 30.000 EUR prize fund, the top prizes for both men and women will be: 2500โฌ/2000โฌ/1500โฌ/1000โฌ/900โฌ/800โฌ/700โฌ/600โฌ/500โฌ/400โฌ.
At the moment 117 players are registered to participate across three sections of the event. WGM/IM Irene Kharisma Sukandar will be commenting the tournament on Lichess.
