The American Chess Cup 2024 reached the Finals stage and Levon Aronian and Irina Krush emerged winners of the Champions Brackets in the Open and Women’s sections respectively.
GM Levon Aronian defeated GM Ray Robson in the Champions bracket final match with a convincing score of 2.5-0.5. Aronian took a massive 2-0 lead after the first day of play, and a draw in the third round was enough to secure his seat in the Grand final and earn a money-prize bonus of $15,000.
Aronian still has to play the Grand Final match for the tournament victory against the Winner of the Elimination Bracket, The Finals in the Elimination bracket will be played between Ray Robson and Wesley So but only one of them will keep his chances for the American Chess Cup title.
GM Irina Krush booked her ticket for the Grand Final in the Women’s section after defeating IM Alice Lee. Irina crushed her opponent with a 2.5-0.5 result after taking victories in both classical games. Krush earned a money bonus of $9,000 and waits for the Winner from the Elimination bracket.
The finals of the Women’s Elimination bracket will be played between IM Alice Lee and WGM Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova.
