Kateryna Lagno and Aleksandra Goryachkina emerged as the Winner and the runner-up of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2022/2023 series and became the first two qualifiers for the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2024!
Kateryna Lagno scored 325 Grand Prix points to become the winner of the tour, while Goryachkina scored 318 points to claim the second available spot for the Candidates Tournament. Lagno opened the 2022/2023 Grand Prix series with a victory in Astana, Kazakhstan where she earned 160 Grand Prix points. Goryachkina clinched silver at the same event, claiming 130 grand prix points for the overall standings. At the third leg of the tour in New Delhi, Kateryna Lagno earned 85 Grand Prix points as the 4th ranked player of the event, while Goryachkina took 133 points as one of the tiers for the first place. The last event of the tour – FIDE Women’s Grand Prix Nicosia 2023 determined Lagno and Goryachkina as the qualifiers for the Candidates as the former and the latter earned 80 and 55 points (respectively) from the 5th and 6th positions on the tournament standings.
FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2022/2023 – Final results:
The FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2024 will take place from 3-25 April in Toronto, Canada. According to the regulations of the event, eight players will qualify for the tournament through the following events:
- Runner-up of the FIDE Women’s World Chess Championship 2023 (Ju Wenjun or Tan Zhongyi)
- Two best-ranked players of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2022/2023 – Kateryna Lagno and Aleksandra Goryachkina
- Three best-ranked players of the FIDE Women’s World Chess Cup 2023
- Two best-ranked players of the FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss 2023
