Reigning Women’s World Chess Champion GM Ju Wenjun clinches Women’s Blitz Chess Championship 2024 after defeating GM Lei Tingjie in the finals!
Scoring 8/11 points on the first day of the World Blitz Chess Championship, Ju Wenjun was in group of players who qualified to the final 8-player knock-out phase. On her road to the Blitz Champion title, Ju Wenjun defeated GM Valentina Gunina in the Quarterfinals with the score of 2.5-0.5, then took a victory against GM Vaishali Rameshbabu in the Semifinals with the same score and faced GM Lei Tingjie in the Finals.
The regular 4-game match for the title finished in a tie with all four draws, and the players proceeded playing until one scores a win. It was Ju Wenjun to come to the first win, in the 6th game of the match, and clinched her first title of the Women’s World Blitz Chess Champion. Ju Wenjun also won the top prize of $60,000.
