Dutch Grandmaster Jorden van Foreest emerged convincing winner of the Maplewood Invitational Chess Tournament that was held from 19-25th July in Waterloo, Quebec, Canada.
The 10-player Round Robin event featured 7 invited Grandmasters and 3 qualifiers from the Maplewood Professional Cup, making it one of the most prestigious tournaments in Canada in 2024.
Jorden van Foreest won seven games and conceded only two draws, against Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux and Vignir Vatnar Stefansson, to complete the tournament with 8 points, a full two and a half points ahead of the nearest opposition.
This is van Foreest’s second huge trophy in a short time in Canada, having previously won the Canadian Chess Open in similar crushing fashion. He is awarded with $5,000 top prize.
