The chess community is eagerly awaiting the premiere of the new documentary “Madwoman’s Game,” a project that masterfully blends high-end cinematography with the deep philosophy of the ancient game.
What sets this film apart in the world of production is the name of its executive producer, the legendary Keanu Reeves, who recognized the profound power of this story. As an avid chess player himself, Reeves brings a genuine passion for the game to the project.
Directed by multi-Emmy Award winner Zach Zamboni, the film follows young Latina chess player Bianca Mitchell-Avila. Filmed on location across the US, France, and Mexico, the documentary captures her encounters with world-class female players while exploring a universal question: If life is a game of chess, how do we play it?
The project gained major momentum in 2021 when Bianca Mitchell-Avila met Keanu Reeves, who was impressed by her vision and agreed to join the film as an executive producer.
Alongside Reeves, the film is produced by Carla Berkowitz, already well-known to the public for the 2020 chess mega hit Critical Thinking.
