Theย Romanian National Chess Championships 2024 took place from 23 February to 2 March at the Eforie-Nord Complex Steaua de Mare with more than 150 players competing in Open, Women’s and Amateurs sections.
The top-seeds lived up to the expectations in the Open section, and after nine played rounds GM Constantin Lupulescu (2589) and GM Mircea-Emilian Parligras (2537) tied for the top scoring 7.5 points. Lupulescu leaped to the top after defeating GM Vladislav Nevednichy (2445) in the last round, while Parligras drew against 16-year-old FM Filip Magold (2400) who had a great tournament. With the better tiebreaks, Mircea-Emilian Parligras won the tournament and clinched his third national title, and Constantin Lupulescu took silver. As many as four players tied for bronze with 6.5 points (each), but GM David Gavrilescu (2524) won the medal thanks to the best tiebreak criteria.
WIM Miruna-Daria Lehaci (2227) defended the 2023 Women’s Champion title, convincingly winning the Women’s event. 20-year-old Miruna-Daria Lehaci scored unbeaten 7/9 points to win the event and place herself half a point ahead of four runner-ups. WIM Alessia-Mihaela Ciolacu (2175) had the best tiebreaks to claim silver, WGM Elena-Luminita Cosma (2238) won bronze, WGM Mihaela Sandu (2270) was fourth and IM Corina-Isabela Peptan (2314) came fifth.
12-year-old Vlad Petroff (1738) clinched the Romanian Amateur Chess Championship 2024 (for players rated U2200) as the 22nd seed at the starting list! Petroff scored 7.5/9 points to be half a point ahead of three runner-ups and earned 154.4 rating points! Vlad-George Zubcu (2166) had the best tiebreak criteria to win silver medal, Cosmin Tanasie (2006) came third and Razvan-Catalin Tudoroiu (2031) finished the event in the fourth place.
