GM Mark Paragua Wins Indianapolis Chess Open 2024

The 19th Annual Indianapolis Chess Open 2024 was held from 23-25th August at the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Airport in Indianapolis, USA.

The event had five sections: Major (for players rated over 1900), Under 2100, Under 1800, Under 1500, Under 1200. The top two sections are FIDE rated.

The tournament format was 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/80, SD/30, d30 (2-day option, rounds 1-2 G/60 d10).

The main Major Section had 33 participants. GM Mark Paragua took a clear first place, despite an early setback in round 1, winning the top $1900 prize.

Under 2100 section had 47 participants. Andrei Skorobogatykh 2078 emerged clear winner with 4.5/5 points.

Under 1800 section gathered 31 players. Logan White 1777, Keoni F. Osborne 1644, Siddhant Sinha 1636 and Aarav Karthik 1607 shared the first place with 4.0/5 points each.

Under 1500 section had 20 participants. Liam Brown 1472, Charles O Esan 1470 and Riley Scott Mcculloch 1468 shared the first place with 4.0/5 points.

Under 1200 section attracted 35 players. Jacob Maynard 1066 was the convincing winner with the perfect score, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind.

The event had a $15,000 guaranteed prize fund.
