GM Jure Skoberne wins Slovenian Chess Championship 2023

The National Chess Championship of Slovenia 2023 took place from April-25 to May-2 in Radenci. The event was played in 9 rounds, swiss system with awards for several categories including open, women, juniors and veterans.

GM Jure Skoberne won the tournament with the score of 7.5 points and better tiebreak criteria than FM Domen Tisaj who had the same score but claimed silver medal. GM Matej Sebenik emerged as the bronze medalist with 7 points.

Leon Skrbec scored 6 points to be the best junior player (U-20), half a point ahead of FM Maksym Goroshkov and Aleks Centrih who won silver and bronze medals (respectively).

WFM Barbara Skuhala became the Slovenian Women’s Chess Champion emerging as the best female player in the tournament with 5.5 points and better tiebreak criteria than WIM Zala Urh who had the same score. Kaja Faganel clinched bronze with 4.5 points.

The best senior player in the event was Boris Kovac and the best Women Senior player came Majda Kovac.
