GM Fernando Peralta emerged as the Winner of the 97th Argentine Chess Championship leaving three players half a point behind. Peralta clinched his third national title, having previously won the 2006 and 2018 National Chess Championships of Argentina.
GM Fernando Peralta had a clumsy start losing his fourth-round game to GM Diego Flores. Peralta stroke back scoring 5.5 out of seven remaining games to emerge as the sole Winner of the event. GM Alan Pichot, GM Leandro Krysa and GM Sandro Mareco trailed by a half a point, with tiebreak criteria determining the medalists – Pichot won silver and Krysa won bronze medal.
The 97th edition of the Argentine Chess Championship took place from 1st – 10th December in Rio Negro. It was a 12-player round-robin tournament with a total prize fund of $5800 (1.000.000 ARS). The time control was 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.ย
