GM Daniil Yuffa and IM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez are Spanish Chess Champions 2024

The Spanish Chess Championships 2024 took place from 11-19 December in the city of Marbella. The event gathered 104 entries who competed over 9 swiss rounds for the titles of National Chess Champions.

GM Daniil Yuffa (Spain, 2640) emerged as the sole Winner of the event scoring 7.5 points, clinching his maiden title of the Spanish Chess Champion. Trailing by half a point, GM Maksim Chigaev (Spain, 2624) and GM Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli (Spain, 2575) tied for silver, but Chigaev had better tiebreaks to finish the event in the second place and Iturrizaga came third.

Scoring 6.5 points, IM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez (Spain, 2385) emerged as the Spanish Women’s Chess Champion and clinched her 9th title. Sabrina Vega tied from 4th-8th place on the overall rankings, but finished 8th according to the tiebreak criteria. IM Marta Garcia Martin (Spain, 2322) was second with the score of 5 points, and Belen Miranda Herrera (Spain, 1965) finished third with the same score but lower tiebreaks.

IM Diego Macias Pino (Spain, 2487) was the best ranked U18 player in the event with the score of 6 points and overall 11th place on the final standings.
