GM Alex Sherzer Memorial

The tournament in memory of Grandmaster Alex Sherzer took place from November 1-3 at the Executive Conference and Training Center in Sterling, Virginia.

The competition was open only to players who have been rated over 2200 OTB. The playing format was five-round Swiss with time control G/90+30. The total prize fund was $7,000.

A total of 33 players participated in the event. The first place was shared by IM Gus Huston USA 2347, GM Zhou Jianchao USA 2590 and GM Patrick Wolff USA 2531 with 4 points each.

Grandmaster Sherzer grew up and played extensively in the mid-Atlantic area. He was the U.S. Cadet Champion, twice the U.S. Junior Invitational winner, U.S. High School Champion, silver medalist in the World U18 Championship.
