The 2024 National Chess Championships of Estonia were held from 12 to 19 December at the Paul Keres Chess Hall in Tallinn. The events were played separately, with 16-player knock-out event in the Open, and 8-player knock-out for the Women’s championship.
GM Aleksandr Volodin (Estonia, 2466) emerged as the Winner of the event after defeating the highest-rated Estonian woman player IM Mai Narva (Estonia, 2413) in the final match. The first two games of the finals finished in a draw, when Volodin took two consecutive wins to clinch his 4th Estonian Chess Champion title. Mai Narva clinched silver, and GM Meelis Kanep (Estonia, 2377) won bronze after defeating Filipp Obolonin in the match for the third place.
The top-seeded player in the Women’s competition WIM Margareth Olde (Estonia, 2147) lived up to the expectations and clinched the Women’s National Chess Championship for the third time in her career. Margareth Olde was victorious against WCM Olde Grete in the finals, scoring narrow 2.5-1.5 victory. WCM Grete Olde (Estonia, 1942) won silver, and WIM Monika Tsiganova (Estonia, 2077) claimed bronze after scoring 3-1 victory over WIM Margit Brokko (Estonia, 1958) in the match for the third place.
