France defends double gold at the 2023 Mitropa Cup

France wins double gold at the 2023 Mitropa Cup! After winning the historical double gold at the Mitropa Cup 2022 in Corsica, French teams defended the trophies and repeated the success this year in Mali Losinj, Croatia.

Scoring 16 match points, French Open section team emerged as the sole leader of the event, while Italy claimed silver with 14 match points. Hungary finished the event in the third place with the score of 13 match points.

Women’s team of France won the Women’s section with a round to spare. After 9 played rounds, France scored 14 match points, and Croatia came second with 13 match points and better board points than Slovenia who had the same score but claimed bronze medal.

The Closing ceremony of the event took place after the end of the last round with attendance of the Mayor of the Mali Losinj Municipality Ms Anna Kucic, ECU President Mr Zurab Azmaiparashvili, ECU Vice President Mr Alojzije Jankovic and the President of the Mitropa Cup Association Mr Marco Biagioli.

The event was played from 10-20 April in Mali Losinj, Croatia, in Open and Women’s sections separately, with participation of 10 federations: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland. The Championships were played in 9 rounds, round-robin system, with time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to finish the game, with 30 seconds increment for each move from move one.
