FM Facundo Vazquez wins Uruguay Chess Championship Semifinals 2024

The Uruguay Chess Championship Semifinals 2024 were played from 9-13 February in Urugay’s largest city and capital, Montevideo. The event was played in 7 rounds, swiss system, with seven qualification spots for the Uruguay National Chess Championship 2024.

The tournament gathered 70 entries, and the top-seeded FM Facundo Vazquez lived up to the expectations, winning the event with score of 6/7 points. 20-year-old Facundo Vasquez went unbeaten in the tournament, and earned 6.6 ELO points. GM Alejandro Hoffman and IM Claudio Coppola tied for silver, scoring 5.5 points each, but Hoffman came second thanks to better tiebreaks, while Coppola clinched bronze medal.
