GM Fidel Corrales Jimenez clear winner of Pacific Coast Open

The 29th Annual Pacific Coast Open was held from 19-21st July at the Hilton Orange County Airport Hotel, Irvine, near Los Angeles, USA.

The event had 7 sections: Premier (for players rated over 2000), Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000. The top two sections are FIDE rated.

The tournament format was 6-round Swiss with the time control 40/80, SD/30, d30 (2-day option, rds 1-3 G/35, d10).

The main Premier Section had 50 participants. GM Fidel Corrales Jimenez took a clear first place with 5.5/6 points, after defeating the top seeded GM Karen Grigoryan in the final round. Corrales Jimenez is awarded with $3100 prize.

Under 2100 section had 80 participants. Michael Taylor 1918, Jayden David Lee 1877 and Ivan Petrusevich 1853 shared the first place with 5.0/6 points each.

Under 1900 section had 63 participants. Gavin Tjipto 1823 is sole winner with 5.5/6 points.

Under 1700 section gathered 37 participants. Owen Durby 1534 was convincing with 5.5/6 points.

The event had a $30,000 guaranteed prize fund.
