The FIDE Zone 3.4 Chess Championship 2023 is taking place from May 26 to June 3 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The event is played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. The competition includes the players from the following chess federations: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
It is a qualification event for the FIDE World Cup 2023 and the top two players of the Open section will qualify for the 2023 FIDE World Chess Cup, and the Winner of the Women’s section will qualify for the FIDE Women’s World Chess Cup. The total prize fund of the championship is $5.000 with $1.000 reserved for the Winner of the Open event and $500 reserved for the Women’s section champion.
The top seeds in the Open category are: GM Nodirbek Yakubboev, GM Rinat Jumabayev, and GM Yusup Atabayev. WIM Meruert Kamalidenova, FM Liya Kurmangaliyeva and WIM Alua Nurmanova headline the Women’s Championship.
