American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana convincingly won the SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz Croatia, claiming his second GrandChessTour trophy in less than a fortnight.
Following Caruana’s crushing display in SuperUnited Rapid, where he left the nearest follower 3 points behind (2 points per rapid game), it was sufficient to accumulate 12 points in Blitz portion (1 point per game) to secure the overall tournament victory.
Caruana is awarded $40,000 for this excellent result. Last week he won the Superbet Chess Classic Romania.
SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz Croatia, part of the GrandChessTour 2024, was held from 10-14th July at The Westin Hotel in Zagreb, Croatia.
The event was played over 9 round-robin rapid rounds (2 points/game), and 9 double round-robin blitz rounds (1 point/game), and the cumulative sum of the points decided the Winner of the tournament.
