In a twitter thread under the initial post displaying some weird “toys”, Elon Musk once again referred to the cheating scandal between Hans Niemann and Magnus Carlsen, stating:
“I have to say that if he did use Stockfish b*** vibes, he deserved to win. At least once.
Computers are so much better than humans at chess, it’s absurd.
I predict that chess will be essentially fully solved (like checkers) within 10 years.”
This post caused a storm of angry comments, from chess players pointing out that “there are more possible positions on a chess board than atoms in the universe”, to the users reminding of plethora of Musk’s predictions that never came true.
Anish Giri had no dilemma about the priorities for solving. “Solve Mars.” – he said.
GM Alex Colovic pointed that even if there is the final solution to chess, no human will be able to remember it, and we will continue to play among ourselves.
Mr Dodgy reminded about the trouble with Tesla cars: “Chess will be solved in the same way that cars “solved running”. Which they kinda did, except when they explode.”
WGM Jennifer Shahade called on the users to wake up: “This is not even about chess. It’s about using AI to cheat, steal and hoard resources for the ultra rich.”
