GM Daniel Howard Fernandez is the winner of HZ Open Chess Tournament

The 26th HZ Open Chess Tournament was held from 3-10th August at the HZ University of Applied Sciences in Vlissingen, Netherlands.

The 9-round Swiss tournament gathered 232 players from 22 chess federations.

Grandmaster Daniel Howard Fernandez from England emerged clear winner of the tournament with 7.5/9 points. Heading into the final round there was a huge tie on the first place as eight players had 6.5 points each. In the last round, however, only Fernandez was able to score a win.

Eleven players are sharing the 2nd place with 7 points each. Top prizes in the event are EUR 2000/1300/800/500/400/300.

During round 7, a chess player from was removed from the Tournament.
