Everything is set for the 110th British Chess Championships which will be held at Hull City Hall and the DoubleTree by Hilton in Hull City Centre, with events running from Thursday 25th July to Sunday 4th August 2024 across the two city centre venues.
British Chess Championships feature British Championship, Major Open, British Senior Championships, British Junior Championships, Weekend and Weekday events, and Rapidplay and Blitz events.
The British Chess Championship 2024, will have a very rich line-up headlined by GM David Howell (England, 2675), GM Michael Adams (England, 2670), GM Jones Gawain (England, 2633), and GM Luke McShane (England, 2617), including Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber Mark Collinson (England, 1899), who will compete in the British Senior Championship.
In case of a tie for the title, the playoff match will determine the new British Chess Champion. The total prize fund of the event exceeds ยฃ27.000, with ยฃ10.000 reserved for the Winner of the event.
The event will run from Saturday 27th July to Sunday 4th August with rounds starting at 2.30pm each day, aside from the final round. The system of play is 9 rounds (swiss system) with time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, plus 30 minutes added for remainder of the game, with 30-second increment starting from move one.
