The 10th edition of the Vugar Gashimov Memorial Chess Tournamentย is set to take place from 26-28th September 2024 at the Shusha Hotel & Conference Center with 8 grandmasters in the field.

Actual Chess Olympiad champion with India, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi cancelled his participation due to a scheduled meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The organisers found a last-minute replacement – GM Aravindh Chithambaram who is on his way to the tournament.

I reached Baku and I got to know our Honโ€™ble PM wants to felicitate the Indian team. I was overjoyed when I heard this and I wanted to be a part of it. Itโ€™s amazing at how such short notice he is taking out time for us. I contacted Sarkhan Gashimov (organiser) and he understood my sentiments. Big thanks to him! Wishing Aravindh the best to play against top players in this prestigious event.“, explains Vidit Santosh Gujrathi in Twitter.
