The inaugural Open Internacional de Xadrez Fuxan Os Ventos 2026 officially commenced on July 13 in Lugo, Spain. Organized by the Escola Luguesa de Xadrez, the 9-round Swiss system tournament runs through July 19 at the Auditorio Fuxan os Ventos on Rúa Madanela.
The event has attracted a competitive field of 101 participants holding valid licenses for the 2026 season. Valid for FIDE classical ratings and international norms, the tournament features a total guaranteed prize fund of €6,750, with €1,500 reserved for the overall champion.

The action is directed by IO Pablo Castro Girona, alongside Chief Arbiter IA Oscar B. de Prado Rodríguez. Games are played under a classical time control of 90 minutes for the entire match, supplemented by a 30-second increment starting from move one. The rounds are structured across a week-long schedule featuring double-round days on Tuesday and Thursday. Live games are on Lichess.
Beyond the main classical event, the organizers have scheduled several recreational and cultural activities for the participants. A five-a-side futsal tournament runs during the mornings of Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. On Friday night at 22:00, a specialized Night Blitz Tournament ($5’+3”$) will be hosted at the Bora Bora bar. Additionally, a guided cultural and gastronomic tour through Lugo’s historic center, including the Provincial Museum and the iconic Roman Wall, is scheduled for Saturday morning.
