146th New York State Chess Championship

The 146th New York State Chess Championship, America’s oldest annual tournament, took place from 30th August to 2nd September at Albany Marriott in Albany, New York State, USA.

The event had five sections: Championship (for players rated over 1900), Under 2100, Under 1800, Under 1500 and Under 1200. The top two sections are FIDE rated.

The tournament format was 6-round Swiss with the time control 40/80, SD/30, d30.

The main Championship Section had 84 participants. Grandmaster Zhou Jianchao walked past the opposition taking the first place with perfect 6/6 score, and earning the top prize of $2000.

Under 2100 section had 87 participants. Carlos Daniel Villar-lopez 1995 NY is sole winner with 5.5/6 points.

Under 1800 section had 53 participants. Eustacchio Alexander Raulli 1787 NY, Robert Cheng 1737 NY and Levi Axelrod 1673 OH shared the first place with 5/6 points each.

Under 1500 section also gathered 53 participants. Alex Benjamin Cooper 1387 NY won with the perfect 6/6 score.

Under 1200 section had 59 players. Seojoon Choi 1048 NY tok the top prize with 5.5/6 score.

The event had a $18,000 guaranteed prize fund.
